This is a word of encouragement to my single sisters and brothers. It is very common for singles to focus on praying for a husband or wife, but I want to bring to your attention about praying for your marriage bed before getting married. Prepare the ground! I believe a healthy and happy “marriage bed” is the heartbeat of a marriage.
Ask the Holy Spirit to show you the areas you need to cover in prayer. He will help you investigate your beliefs, emotions and thoughts concerning intimacy; with the mirror of God’s Word. For instance, you may not yet be married, but you are watching pornography and masturbating. In your marriage, these unsolicited 3rd parties are one the fastest way to drain God’s glory in a marriage, restricting the flow of God’s blessings in your marriage bed. These 3rd parties testify in your marriage that your spouse & their body are not enough and God’s way of doing things is not good enough. After masturbation and watching pornography, why is there shame, guilt and insecurities?
Moreover, another example is getting high to feel good about yourself; the danger is you may need to get high to enjoy your spouse’s body in marriage. We must be willing to learn God’s Word and discover the Person of Christ for our confidence and assurance to grow. Substance abuse and momentary fixes are not a good nor lasting way to attain self-confidence.
I will give thanks and praise to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; wonderful are Your works, and my soul knows it very well.

As children of God, we must be honest with ourselves and with God the Holy Spirit. It is not wise to enter marriage with shame, fear, deceit & secrets. It can result in a very challenging first year of marriage. It may be the world’s normal to have a rough first year of marriage, but that is not the “Kingdom standard” for kingdom children. God cannot share His glory in a marriage with guilt, shame & fear. Dear reader, it is possible to have a peaceful, joyous, happy and glorious first year of marriage. You can grow from glory to glory in your future marriage! There is no shame, addiction, fear, nor sin that Jesus Christ has not washed, delivered and empowered you from! Indeed, the Holy Spirit wants to liberate our soul and thoughts from any limitation and device that seeks to steal, kill and destroy your marriage bed’s joy and pleasure.
So then, make room for God’s glory to shine through you today. It starts with you as an individual! The Holy Spirit will remind, help and empower you with Truth that sets you free. If you are led to fast and pray, do so, knowing that your Father can give you a beautiful reality of intimacy that has no shame and fear as you reciprocate the joy and pleasure your spouse has in you. This is according to this promise:
“Your sex life will be blessed as you take joy and pleasure in the wife of your youth.”
Proverbs 5:18 (The Passion Translation)
Lastly, I want you to understand that the foundation of the scripture above is a continuation of Ephesians 5:25. This is because Christ-like (sacrificial) love from a husband to his wife and honour from a wife to her husband are the beginning of “excellency” in a marriage bed. In marriage, honour and love are like a cake before the icing of intimacy has been added on.

Dephne, when I saw your post I had just finished praying to the Lord, asking him to make me who he wants me to be. For such a long time I have been day dreaming of my perfect husband. But never gave thought to me being the wife the word of God requires me to be. Recently I have had many sexual thoughts that have been trying to bombard me and distract me from waiting on God’s perfect timing. My desire has been changed from wanting a perfect husband to wanting to be a submissive wife to my husband, as I have been studying God’s word. I ask for prayer in the area of preparing my heart for the marriage God has designed for his children. My whole life I have been caught up in the outward appearance of marriage, but it is 100 percent an inward heart change built upon God’s principles and God’s desires. I desire to be content I what God thought of when he designed marriage as a representation of Jesus and his Bride, the church. The thought of having such a marriage brings me great joy in expectation of it coming to pass in my life. The Lord is helping me to overcome the battle in my mind to believe that it will come to pass. Thank you for sharing the truth of God’s word with us about praying for our future marriage bed’s. AS CHRISTIANS, WE HAVE GUILT AND SHAME ASSOCIATED WITH SEX AND I’VE READ THAT MANY MARRIED INDIVIDUALS ENTER THE MARRIAGE BED AFRAID AND ASHAMED.
IN THE BIBLE, ESTHER WAS PREPARED FOR A YEAR TO FEEL GOOD AND ENTER THE BED READY.
